  8.                     EXCESSIVE HEAT IN TOWER EISA SYSTEMS
  9.

  11. Tower EISA systems with 80486 processor boards installed exhibit intermittent
  12. failures under certain operating environments.  Normally under these
  13. conditions there are one or more Host Bus Adapters (HBA's) or multiple
  14. network interface cards installed in the system as well as the processor
  15. card.  The failures exhibited are:
  16.  
  17.     - Complete system halts, forcing a reset of the system,
  18.  
  19.     - Error messages generated by the operating system in use.
  20.  
  21. The cause of these intermittent failures has been proven to be caused by
  22. excessive heat buildup in the tower enclosure due to improper placement or
  23. installation of the enclosure itself.  To insure proper operation of Tower
  24. EISA systems in all operating environments, the following guidelines must be
  25. met:
  26.  
  27.     1.  Proper ventilation must be supplied for the Tower enclosure
  28.  
  29.     2.  Ambient air temperature must be within the specifications stated in
  30.         the Tower User's Manual.
  31.  
  32.     3.  All system covers, including drive bay covers, must be installed
  33.         while the system is operating.  These enclosures are designed for
  34.         optimal air flow with the covers in place.
  35.  
  36.     4.  The processor board installed in the system must be a particular
  37.         revision level.  The processor boards listed below have a vented
  38.         bracket (AST part number 200412-001) installed which aids air flow.
